Cape Range Campgrounds Reopening 27 April
Great news — 311 campsites across 18 campgrounds in Cape Range National Park and Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves will reopen on Monday 27 April.
Cape Range National Park
All campgrounds reopening 27 April EXCEPT:
- Boat Harbour — closed until at least 10 May. Existing bookings will be cancelled.
- One K — closed until at least 10 May. Existing bookings will be cancelled.
Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves
All campgrounds reopening 27 April EXCEPT:
- 14 Mile (sites 12–28) — sustained significant damage requiring a complete rebuild and relocation. Bookings cancelled until at least 29 October.
Nyinggulara National Park — Not Reopening
All campgrounds in Nyinggulara National Park sustained significant damage and require a complete rebuild. The park’s radio tower also needs replacing before reopening can be considered, as there is currently no emergency communications.
Bookings for Winderabandi, North Lefroy, South Lefroy, Point Billie and Janes Bay will be refunded. No further bookings can be made for these campgrounds until at least 25 September.
Day Use
Day use sites are open across Ningaloo Marine Park, Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves, Bundegi Conservation Park, Jurabi Conservation Park, and most of Cape Range National Park. Charles Knife Canyon remains closed, as do Shothole Canyon Conservation Park and Nyinggulara National Park.
What This Means for Your Booking
If you have an upcoming booking with us and your campsite is at one of the reopening campgrounds — you’re good to go. If your campsite is at one of the locations that remains closed, get in touch and we’ll help you explore alternatives. With most of Cape Range back online plus Yardie Homestead, Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Park, and Coral Bay all open, there are plenty of options to get your Ningaloo holiday sorted.

The landscape is already transforming — there’s fresh growth and green everywhere you look. And the best news? The whale sharks are here. Tour operators are back out on the water and have been running trips for a while now. If you’ve been holding off on booking, Ningaloo is very much open for business.
Our Caravans
All vans are ready and waiting. Get in touch or check availability to lock in your dates.
Update #8 | 10 April 2026 — 2:50 AWST
Full Road Access Restored & Campground Updates
Road Access
All roads to Exmouth and Coral Bay are now open. The Minilya-Exmouth Road from Burkett Road to Coral Bay Road intersection has reopened. Extreme caution and speed reductions apply — drive to road conditions. The Minilya Roadhouse may still be closed, so continue to carry sufficient fuel and supplies.
Campground Status
RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park — Will remain closed for arrivals until 15 June 2026. Budget cabins with shared and external bathrooms have been damaged beyond use and are no longer available to guests.
Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Park — Still undergoing repairs. Expected to remain closed until around 20 April.
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park — Open and accepting guests.
Coral Bay caravan parks — Open and ready for use.
Cape Range National Park — Open for day use. Campgrounds remain officially closed until 27 April, though we’re hopeful this may be brought forward.
Unplug Rentals
All of our caravans are ready to go. With the RAC park closed until mid-June, campsite availability in Exmouth will be tighter than usual for some time. If you’re planning a trip, we’d recommend securing your campsite as early as possible, then getting in touch with us to arrange your caravan.
Update #7 | 8 April 2026 — 1:00 PM AWST
Road to Exmouth Now Open & Airport Screening Update
Road Access
The Minilya-Exmouth Road is now open between Burkett Road and Exmouth. However, local providers are still carrying out repairs, so you should only travel to the area if you have confirmed accommodation.
Please plan your trip carefully:
- The Minilya Roadhouse remains closed — ensure you carry enough fuel and food for the journey.
- Many properties remain unavailable and demand is expected to exceed supply for some time.
- Secure confirmed accommodation before booking tours or travelling to Exmouth.
Learmonth Airport
Learmonth Airport is operational as of 10:00 AM on Tuesday 7 April. The Department of Home Affairs has approved temporary reduced screening services. Please be aware of the following changes:
- All baggage other than minor items must be checked in — only minor carry-ons will be accepted onto the plane.
- Every piece of carry-on will need to be manually searched.
- Please allow extra time and treat staff with patience — these temporary measures are in place to keep flights running.
Contact Qantas directly to arrange your flights.
Our Caravans & Available Campsites
All of our caravans are undamaged, fully operational and ready to go. If you’re looking to get your Ningaloo holiday back on track, campsites are currently available at:
- Yardie Homestead Caravan Park — open and accepting guests.
- Coral Bay caravan parks — open and ready for use.
Get in touch and we’ll help match you with a caravan for your dates.
Update #6 | 7 April 2026 — 1:00 PM AWST
Flights Resumed & Campground Status Update
Learmonth Airport
Qantas flights to Learmonth Airport have resumed, with passenger screening for regular services approved by the federal Department of Home Affairs. The airport is operating under temporary arrangements, so passengers are advised to allow extra time for security screening when departing. We’ll update as more details on operations become available.
Campground Status Update
Coral Bay — Open and ready for use.
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park — Open and accepting guests.
Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Park — Still dealing with significant damage to infrastructure and services. Expected to remain closed until around 20 April.
RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park — Also sustained significant infrastructure damage. Expected to remain closed until around 20 April.
Cape Range National Park — Open for day use only. Campgrounds remain officially closed until 27 April, though we’re hopeful this may be brought forward.
Important Reminder
Please do not travel to Exmouth by road or air until you’ve confirmed your booking with your accommodation provider. Campsite availability remains limited. If you have a booking with us, please get in touch so we can help you plan accordingly.
Update #5 | 7 April 2026 — 9:15 AM AWST
Airport Resuming, Road Opening Imminent & Campground Options
Learmonth Airport
Qantas have resumed inbound flights into Learmonth today. Outbound passenger flights are pending a temporary screening sign-off from Home Affairs, which is expected shortly. We’ll update once full airport operations are confirmed.
Road Access to Exmouth
The road into Exmouth is expected to reopen tonight or tomorrow. We are awaiting an official statement from Main Roads and will update this page as soon as it’s confirmed.
Campground & Accommodation Options
Coral Bay — Campgrounds are open and ready for use.
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park — Open and ready to accept holiday makers.
Ningaloo Caravan Park — Close to reopening. We expect availability shortly.
RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park — Awaiting confirmation on reopening status.
Cape Range National Park — Currently open for day use only (local residents). A full clean-up is well underway across the park. Campgrounds remain officially closed until 27 April, however based on what we’re seeing on the ground, we’re hopeful this date may be brought forward. We’ll share any updates as soon as we hear them.
A Note on Bookings & Refunds
With the road into Exmouth expected to reopen imminently and multiple campgrounds now available or coming back online across the region — including Coral Bay, Yardie Homestead, and caravan parks in town — the Exmouth and Ningaloo experience is very much still on offer, even while Cape Range campgrounds remain temporarily closed.
Once the road into Exmouth reopens and alternative campgrounds are available, we will no longer be offering refunds on caravan hire bookings. Securing a campsite is the guest’s responsibility, and with options now available across the region, holidays can go ahead.
We’re still happy to help with date changes or credits where we can, and if your situation is genuinely tricky, please get in touch — we’ll always do our best to work something out with you.
Update #4 | 4 April 2026 — AWST
Highway Reopening from the South & Exmouth Road Update
North West Coastal Highway (Blowholes Road to Nanutarra) reopens today at 6:00 PM. This restores access from the south to the Coral Bay turnoff area. Speed restrictions and localised closures will be in place for ongoing repair works.
Exmouth remains CLOSED. Minilya-Exmouth Road is still cut off due to 700mm of standing water near the Lyndon River crossing, which is receding slowly. Main Roads expect this road could reopen around Tuesday or Wednesday next week, conditions permitting.
Please do not attempt to drive around road closures. Before Easter, 20 vehicles became stranded or were washed away after breaching closures. Road closure signs are there for your safety.
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park
We’ve confirmed that Yardie Homestead Caravan Park is ready to accept guests as soon as the road into Exmouth reopens. If you’re looking at alternative campsite options for a rebooked stay, Yardie is worth considering.
Planning Your Travel
DFES advise that conditions are changing rapidly. Before you travel, make sure you have sufficient fuel, confirmed accommodation, and check road conditions regularly via:
We’ll continue to update this page as the situation develops.
Update #3 | 2 April 2026 — AWST
Road Access Partially Restored & Airport Update
Road Access
Coral Bay from the North — REOPENED with caution. Minilya-Exmouth Road from Burkett Road intersection to Coral Bay Road intersection has reopened. Extreme caution and speed reductions apply — drive to road conditions.
Exmouth — STILL RESTRICTED. Access to Exmouth remains limited to local residents only via Burkett Road, which continues to be gated by police.
From the South — STILL CLOSED. North West Coastal Highway from Blowholes Road to Burkett Road intersection remains closed due to Ex-Tropical Cyclone damage. Next update expected 2:00 PM on 3 April 2026.
Check Main Roads WA for the latest road conditions.
Learmonth Airport
We’ve been in contact with Qantas representatives regarding the status of Learmonth Airport. The civil aviation terminal has sustained notable damage — the apron and tarmac have been impacted, airport screening equipment has been compromised, and stairwells were undergoing further structural assessment.
While aircraft can technically land on the RAAF side of the base, the civil apron needs repair and damaged screening equipment must be replaced to meet CASA requirements before normal passenger operations can resume.
Qantas have indicated they are working closely with all relevant agencies to find interim solutions and are committed to resuming flights as soon as it is safely achievable. For now, there are no scheduled commercial flights operating into Learmonth.
We’ll update this page as more information comes through.
Update #2 | 1 April 2026 — AWST
Parks & Campgrounds Closed Until at Least 27 April
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (Parks and Wildlife) has confirmed that Cape Range National Park, Nyinggularra National Park (ex-Ningaloo Station), and Ningaloo Marine Park were among the hardest hit areas and have sustained significant damage.
As a result, these parks and all associated campgrounds will remain closed over the Easter period and until at least Monday 27 April.
This means that guests with campsite bookings at any of these locations during this period will not be able to access their sites. If this affects your booking with us, we will be in touch. If you haven’t heard from us yet, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
We’ll continue to update this page as we hear more.
Update #1 | 31 March 2026 — 10:00 AM AWST
Current Situation
Cyclone Narelle has passed through the region. We are all safe and our caravans are undamaged. Unfortunately, the wider Exmouth and Ningaloo region has been significantly impacted.
As of this morning:
- The main highway into Exmouth remains flooded and closed.
- Rivers and waterways are still flowing across roads.
- Exmouth is currently only accessible from the north via Burkett Road, which is gated by police and restricted to returning residents only.
- Caravan parks and Cape Range national park are still closed while damage is assessed.
We do not expect road access to reopen quickly. We will update this page as conditions change.
If You Have an Upcoming Booking
We are personally contacting all guests with upcoming reservations. If you haven’t heard from us yet, you will shortly.
We understand how frustrating this is — we know how far in advance you need to book campsites around Ningaloo during peak season, and we won’t pretend that rebooking is simple.
Here’s what we can offer:
- Credit for a future stay — If a campsite opens up or you’d like to plan for next season, you’re already sorted.
- Date change — If you’re able to secure a new campsite for alternative dates, get in touch and we’ll do our best to match you with a caravan.
- Full refund — If that’s what works best for you, we completely understand. No hard feelings.
Important: Because campsites in the area (national park and caravan parks) book out months in advance, the first step for rebooking is to secure a campsite for your new dates. Once you have that confirmed, contact us and we’ll check caravan availability for you.
New Bookings
Our booking system remains open, but please be aware that travel to the Exmouth region is currently disrupted. We recommend waiting until road access is confirmed before finalising travel plans. Check Main Roads WA for the latest road conditions.
